This picture was taken at Diani Beach, Kenya with a Canon EOS 20D and a 10-22mm lens @ 14mm with a polarizing filter. I shot in RAW format in aperture priority mode using f9 and a shutter speed of 1/250s.

I used Alien Skin's Exposure filter to bring out the colors a bit in photoshop and sharpenned it very slightly - the original pic is already very sharp.

I was hoping to show the beautiful stretch of beach, white sand and convey some sense of movement.

Composition was spot on IMO, just a pitty I was shooting straight into the sun and at the worst time of the day. Better light early in the morning would have made this an even better shot...

Shooting from the other way I got slightly better light but the beackground wasn't the same from that angle, so I preferred this angle with harsh shadows and all...

Just went through some more pictures and found this one with better light.

You're right, the lighting is better on the second image. Unfortunately we can't always choose the time of day to get our shots!

I'm not so sure that I agree that the lighting is better on the second shot. I really like the intense shadows and general ambiance created by the sun in the first shot. That and the "rays" of either clouds or light (can't quite tell with this size), almost make it look as if the camels are coming from the light source itself. I really like it! And, as you said, the composition is great. Nice shot and thanks for sharing!

I agree with Teewinot - in this case the composition more than makes up for the technical shortfall - lovely image - tx for sharing.

I love the first picture, and I don't agree that the light is better on the second picture. Or of course, that depends on what people think is better light though, I really like those harsh shadows as I think it gives different kind of feel to the photo, and that it looks more interesting.

And I seriously, seriously love the composition :D !

The first picture is incredible! All the lines in that picture point to the same place, giving the picture a tremendous power! Well done!

Hi,

Love the composition of the first pic, I think the light actually does a lot for the photograph.

All in all a great shot IMO.
