I think in this case I prefer the before to the after. There are two main reasons:

1. The cat is half-hidden so I don't think cropping to make it (him / her?) larger in the fram adds to the picture.

2. The subtle colour in the original adds interest; the edit is dull in comparison.

The picture might work in monochrome but it would be worth looking at some techniques to get a more punchy finish.

I agree with Wulf, the purple gives a the before picture an different perspective in a way. I am a huge cat person and I really like this picture.

I could hardly see the features of the cat. Others might not realize that it is a cat unless you tell them. Perhaps making the cat's colors a bit lighter could improve the impact of the photo.

Great before picture....I don't think there is a need to post process this one....
Like wulf said its almost B&W already except the light purples. And for the crop it takes away from the subject and steals the feeling of the cat in hiding.
Keep it original its a great shot!
