Hello, this is my first post here.

Just wanted to share a photo effect.
http://www.photoshoproadmap.com/imagenes/varios/folded-picture.jpg

It is based on a tutorial I wrote at my blog about simulating folds and creases on papers. (http://www.photoshoproadmap.com/Photoshop-blog/2006/10/03/creating-paper-folds-and-creases/)

If you don't want to follow all the instructions in the tutorial (five pages...) then you can download the .psd file (http://www.photoshoproadmap.com/imagenes/varios/folded-picture.psd) and replace the image.

The picture was taken from Morgue File. The author is Sergeev (http://www.morguefile.com/forum/profile.php?username=fox-out)

This is my first post here and I couldn't find any guidelines about posting links. If something in this post is not allowed, please let me know and I will change it asap.

Hope you like this effect!

Nice work, especially the details like the shadows down the sides of the "card" supporting the illusion of depth.

Welcome to DPS.

Thanks Wulf. This is one of the most enjoying forums I know. People is polite and posts are very interesting. The same goes for the blog.

The effect on the image I posted is a bit different from what you will get from the tutorial. The tutorial shows how to create three folds instead of two, and the shadows, although very similar to the image, are a little different.

The point is that to create the illusion of bends (folds, creases, whatever they are called...) shown in the image I posted before, you only need two gradients and couple of subtle brush clicks for the shadows.

The rest is done with opacity levels and blending modes.

Gracias. It is the small touches that make a world of difference in giving a realistic final appearance. Have you done other tutorials as well (I haven't explored the photoshoproadmap site in detail although I have bookmarked it for reference)?

Yes, the tutorials featured in The Photoshop Roadmap Blog (http://www.photoshoproadmap.com/Photoshop-blog) are written by me.

The rest of the site is a directory of tutorials and downloads where artists submit their resources.

I also wrote two tutorials for .psd magazine (issue #2 and Starter Kit) that are available now at B&N bookstores in US.

If I continue with this amount of self promotion, I will be banned for life!! ;-)

Don't worry - I asked and I don't think you have overstepped the bounds in replying. :)

I know this thread is old, but I like to play with digital scrapbooking occasionally and always wondered how they got the realistic folds. How fun, thanks for the tutorial!
