Hello, I am a beginner photograh and just bought a D50 and I want to do macro photos. I bought a macro lens close up kit (+1 +4 +10). But even if I am on the macro mode with my 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6 G lens, I can't get too close from the subject because the autofocus is unable to focus. I have to be at 6 to 10 inch from the subject.

Shoud I buy an other lens, specific for macro? Or are there any tips you can give me?

Thanks!

well, i'm my opinion the only way u can take a pic from that distance is with a Nikon Micro lens. The minimum focus distance for ur lens is 1.1ft
A Micro will let u shoot at approx 8in. distance. Otherwise u can buy a Fisheye that lets u take picture from 3in. distance but of course this is not for macro photography.

Don't judge it by how far away the end of the lens is - look at how big your subjects are coming out in the photos. I have a Raynox DCR-250 adapter and the longest lens I have is the far end of my kit 18-55mm. Putting those two together and taking a couple of shots of a ruler (see my Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/wulf/tags/20060601/) account for those), I figured out I was able to get pictures at about half life-size on the camera sensor - ie. 1:2 or not quite full macro (1:1) but enough to produce some fascinating results.
