From what I can see of it in the small size it's in, I like the picture as is. The clothes are a bit dark, but that helps you focus on the head and outline the player outstretched which is a good thing.

I like it. In sports photography, sometimes you just get those shots with undesireable things in the back of the subject. There's not much you can do, as it's not really staged and things are happening every split second.
In the future, it might be possible to note where the third base coach is and move to keep that guy from being behind the pitcher, however, those guys tend to move around a few feet, as do the pitcher sometimes, so I can't see how you could really do much better with this.
It's a good photo. The color is right and you stopped the action. Focus is clear.
In sports the background is always an issue. A couple of thing you might try.
First shoot nearly wide open getting the smallest Dof. In this case the thirdbase person is nearly as sharp as the picture and competes for interest. Less DOF would have made her less distinct. It might have also made the fence only a haze.
Change your perspective shoot from a lower angle alowing some of the background to drop out. This will not do much with a long lens as used here but it might help some.
Oh I do like the shot except for the third base coach.

Next time try a couple different angles. I shot a few fast pitch games, and got some really nice shots shooting from behind, and to the right of the catcher. I shot them thru the fence with a 80-200mm, if you get your lens in just the right spot it will focus on the player, and you wont see any fence at all.
