One Layer: copy/paste original. Create a top/light - bottom/dark gradient of this layer (not a separate additional layer). Set opacity at 80%, and Difference mode. You'll get this:

Interesting effect.
I haven't heard of it before. What's a "Sana Silhouette"?

hpebley3,
Let's call it "homage" to sana's Flash Silhouette in "How I Took It." While trying stuff on the tree photo to simulate flash, I trashed six layers, started over with this one layer and quit when this happened. It just seemed so easy to have made such a difference. And it is infinitely adjustable with contrast/hue/saturation/sharpen/etc.

Jiminy, I really like it. Love the colors in the background and the white sillouette. Very cool:cool: .

Saralonde,
Thanks, especially since it is from a suggested look and an almost accidental rediscovery. But I'll take whatever comes.
I'm watching your number: gonna surprise us? Like probably next week?

It's a brand already? Thanks, Jiminy, if I ever make any decent money out of it I'll give you the credit. :D
Really impressive work. And it helps to actually see what the difference does to the tree.

Nuts, thought no one will notice. Guess that's what I get for bugging you about your count.

sana,
Inspiration can move one: without a good flash, I wondered if there was a way to simulate your look, but came up with this. It's sort of the idea without the same quality. So thank you, and continued good fortune in your experiments!
Saralonde,
It's a challenge to look back and try to figure what's been most important about a thousand comments/posts. Think of it this way: participation makes DPS work, and you have contributed over 5% of the total posts. No small feat, especially measured by how much help, information and comfort you've given. So here's one more way to influence the course of DPS and its members.

So more samples might give someone ideas:

If you wanted to emphasize a portion of your photo:

Ah. Thanks. That's why Google had 0 hits, it's too new a technique. :)
