I started by duplicating my background layer and then converting the bottom layer to grayscale using the channels mixer. Then I changed the color backgrounds opacity way down so only a little color was present.
Then I gave the image the orton effect. Here is how I did that.
1. Duplicate the background Layer and rename it to sharp.
2. Duplicate sharp and change the mode to screen.
3. Merge both layers
4. Duplicate this Merged Layer and rename it to Out of Focus
5. Then I did a Gaussian blur of 25 pixels
6. Then set the Out of Focus layer mode to multiply
Now the orton effect is done. I created a mask for each layer and masked off the bottom of the image on the sharp layer and the oppisite on the out of focus layer.
Then I cross processed the image. Which was one curve adjustment with the Red and Green channels with a slight S curve and the blue channel cut compressed. Then a levels adjustment on that which brings the black point torwards the middle a little. Then a photo filter adjustment layer of a bright yellow set its opactity to 5%
Then I did some dodgeing and burning mostly at the treeline.
Some of my information and memory may be incorrect since I flattend the image.
