View Full Version : Pro wrestling
I had posted about this in another section, and realized what I was looking for should be over here. No wonder that thread went over like a lead balloon.

Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 48 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Exposure Bias: 0/3 EV
I cropped this photo tighter. the original was a much wider shot with one of the fans raising his hands on the left side. I have several more from this same event at flickr. The problem I had was capturing the action without noise or blowing it out with flash. any tips?

Hey Zane ... I loved the photo's, wished you had more a chance to move around with the action. The photo's you did post on flickr were nicer then some of the shots I've seen in pro wrestling magz.
If you were given a chance to have moved around the action, you would have had better shots. I don't know what else to tell you about the lightning situation. They had a black "thing" hanging in the background, that couldn't have been good for any lighting.
Thanks so much for sharing. It reminds me of some of my very first photo's at a Pro Wrestling event. They didn't have big lighting back then, it was dark, dank, and the lighting was horrible. I might have to go to the local events. I haven't been to one yet.
Thanks for the compliment. I wish I was able to get around the action more as well. I might be able to talk them into letting me onto the other side of the steel rail next time. The "club" this was at wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing. They do other shows around the state - at high schools and such. That might work a little better.

You've got some good looking pics on your blog! What settings did you happen to use for that event?
I'm a huge wrestling fan and I'm just getting into photography so all of this stuff is new to me (apertures, shutter speeds, ISO's, etc) but I'm hoping to learn enough to finally be able to get good shots when I attend the events. I usually sit ringside for most of the events (including the last few Wrestlemania's) and take a bunch of pictures, but they always come out dark, with a lot of noise, or very blurry (link to my Flickr account (http://www.flickr.com/photos/smolek5228/sets/) for examples).
I'll be purchasing a Digital Rebel XT within the next month so I'll have good equipment the next time I attend an event. I just need to learn how to use it first! :D

The photos that turned out better than the rest were shot with flash, 1600 ISO on Apeture priority. Some turned out well, while other times the flash was too much. the lighting around the ring was stationary, but at a large event (Wrestlemania!) I wouldn't even know where to start to manage all of the light.

Thanks for the info! I've been searching around lately trying to find great looking images that were taken at wrestling events and that still contain the EXIF data. There's not too much out there, but I did come across these images on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlmodeltnaphotos/) which were taken at events for TNA wrestling.
There are a lot of high quality shots there and if you click on "more properties" on the right side of the image's page you can see the camera settings that were used.
