It's all too easy to get in the gear head mindset, "If I just had that new lens I could get better shots." I say why not explore and have fun with what ever is around to take pictures. I've been able to produce cool pictures with a lomography effect from my cell phone.

So here is my challenge, Let see those cell phone shots. The lower the quality the better!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/edmdusty/453543374/" title="The Other Side by dustinj, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/234/453543374_86a0c8fe8e.jpg" width="480" height="480" alt="The Other Side" /></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/edmdusty/453558081/" title="The Other Side by dustinj, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/195/453558081_008ff2fe6f.jpg" width="469" height="469" alt="The Other Side" /></a>

These are two shots taking at a local punk club called the Bottom Of The Hill. I used photoshop to remove much of the graininess from the shots. If you're not familiar with lomography check it out -- it's great fun and very liberating. <a href=http://www.lomography.com/>http://www.lomography.com/</a>

I have no clue why some people are so caught up in bad photos. Lomography, and low quality camera phones... isn't the general idea of technology forward progress?

Anyhoo, straight from the... erm... phone:

http://static.zooomr.com/images/4606930_58f73ae471.jpg
Both only taken on a phone so they could be instantly transmitted elsewhere. I have both shots on film as well. The one of the sky doesn't have the car's glass heater lines because an SLR is cool like that.

I agree that Lomography isn't for everyone. However, I believe that you have technology and photography confused. Yes, the idea of technology is progress, but there are as many different goals, or ideas, of photography as there are people. If using a low quality device is what it takes to capture the mood you are shooting for, then go for it.

Can you say the same thing for architecture? Just because we have new technology does that mean that we should rip down all the Victorian houses and replace them with new condos instead of restoring them? (a major issue here in San Francisco)

You can look through flickr and see 100's and 100's of 100% technically perfect, and 100% perfectly boring shots. Technology is just a tool and is not called for in every situation. Having the best technology does not mean that you'll have to best photography.

I believe that you have technology and photography confused.I do not. Having a degree in computer science, and being somebody who's carried a camera everywhere for years now, I know very well the difference.
Can you say the same thing for architecture? Just because we have new technology does that mean we should rip down all the Victorian houses and replace them with new houses instead of restoring them?Yes, you can. Just because something is old, doesn't mean it's worth saving. If we all followed that logic, NYC would still be full of wooden structures and would never have grown into what it is today. I thought humanity learned this lesson from the great fire of London (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Fire_of_London). Sure, some things are worth keeping, but not at the expense of future progress.

The point is this - sure, sometimes for artistic reasons you want to make something look old. But really, what benefit could possibly come from something like a camera phone? All the pictures in this thread have no artistic value IMO. They're just snapshots taken on a really bad camera. camera phones produce worse quality than disposable film cameras do. They were designed as toys, and should be treated as such. Saying you can get art from a phone is the same thing as handing a child a marker and calling the result "modern art"

The EnV is a great phone, folds out with a full keyboard and uses micro SD cards and has 2 megapix camera. I took the cellphone to the ball game as I did not want to have a problem at security with the Nikon and big lenses. It is nice to always have a "half-way decent" camera in your pocket.

I know good equipment does not a good photographer make. Nor would fancy paints and expensive brushes make one a talented painter. Musicians before the digital recording era made brilliant music.
It is not the camera, but the person behind it.
You get the idea.
However, I love my new camera and it is an expensive amazing machine. The higher end quality technology enables good photos to be their very best, showcase them... but that is it.

My camera phone is 2MP, no flash and the slightest movement will create a strange blur, but I have managed to get some pictures I am pleased with when I ordinarily would not have had my camera available.

Can't remember where I took this pic. It was June or July time frame of 2007 in Washington D.C. I do remember seeing Ben Stein at the restaurant our group ate at. I never would've known it was him if someone else hadn't gone up to say hi to him.

I wish I would've cleaned off the lense of the Razr before I snapped this shot though. No post processing done to this picture.

I took this right after I got my teeth cleaned, lol
I thought it would turn out bad on my cell phone, but because I didn't bring my DLSR, I had no choice. Luckily it turned out awesome! My phone is the Samsung blackjack.

This first pic is a precious one of my youngest baby when he had to be put in the hospital, and I couldn't find my camera as we were rushing off.

This next one is of my cat I took for an example of framing. By the time I got back with my actual camera, he had moved, of course.

I forgot about these from my 5 year old. The first is a self-portrait.

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lori.hendricks.7/PicsToPost/photo?authkey=tuFrigPVix0#5203416639784944386"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/lori.hendricks.7/SDY_3XC9AwI/AAAAAAAAAD8/salGi35Uysk/s400/Jackson%20in%20car.jpg" /></a>

This one he took of the baby after he arranged the toy as goggles.
It is the background on my phone's home screen.

Loved this photo and of course, wished I had a proper camera at the time! My buddies and I were out fishing when I snapped this with my LG camera phone.

I love the fact we can now shoot without our camera gear with our phones.....my suggestion is everyone posting a photo include their phone make and model.....
Might help some looking for a new phone decide.
There are phones coming out with 5 and even an 8 megapixel camera!!!
I think thats just insane.....quality wont neccessarily be great since the sensor is still what it is but any pixels you can add helps.
