i was wondering if this shot worked the way it is or would you crop anything out. i just loved her expression in her face. thanks for any feedback.

I think you have a nice capture here. A lot is going on in the scene so one's eye tends to wander a bit without settling down in any particulat spot. The side light and facial shadow makes the expression a little hard to see. Fill flash can be frustrating to master but would be helpful here.

I like the long shadows. Next time try to get the whole body shadow in the frame as it adds depth and dimension to the image. Thanks for sharing your shot with us.

Ditto what clockdoc says about the shadow and the full scene. There are so many people, I don't stay focused in on the main subjects.

Also, it looks like your ocean is a little crooked. :) If you want to keep the kids standing straight up, you can probably get away with cropping out the sky completely.

I thought the title was in regards to all the current discussion lately about the trouble photographers seem to get in when photographing children in public...much less in swimsuits!

I agree with the leveling comment and the full shadow. Nice shot.

The second crop is better. Good that you also tuned the brightness, now you can see the details on her face better.

I like it. I would leave it as is (top). Although the brightness is bumped up in the second, it looses the darker tones of the ocean behind her. This is where dodging and burning could help. Just dodge her face and leave the rest be (photoshop elements).

I like the framing. Yes there is a lot to look at but her face is the focus and for me the eye is anchored upon returning from the rest of the frame. Great emotion/story.

Watch your horizon line, especially with water.

Isn't photography at the beach fun. I photographed my neighbors children at the Michigan Dunes a couple years back and took photos in black and white mode and color. The neighbor loved the photos in b/w more and requested that I make 8x10s for framing. Action photos like flying kites or throwing a frisby or just waving a beach towel on a windy day can make for some very nice photos. Practice, practice, practice. And don't be afraid to experiment with your camera. Try to take notes with the changes you've made so you can always go back to the ones you prefer. Great job on the second crop.

I added EXIF to your original post.

To me, there's too much depth of field, although it may be a function of the sensor size, since the aperture was f/3.7. I find my eyes darting all over the frame without settling in one spot very long.
