Hello all - there is something I really like about this picture: the up close view of the my daughter's sidewalk chalk, even a bit of frost.

Other thoughts? What could be done to make this pic better? Composition? Colors? Better lighting?

Thank you.

photog418, Welcome

Well done, and a good experience in making everyday objects abstractly more interesting. Good detail and color; I might have given the 3 verticals a more random arrangement, as well as the four "corners." Just for a less-posed look.

Excellent suggestions.

Actually, I didn't stage this photo. I just looked into the container and snapped some pics.

Thanks for the great feedback.

Actually, when I clicked on this thread I was hoping to see your daughter's sidewalk chalk ART, not the chalk itself! :p

Good shot. Have you though of increasing the saturation and contrast a bit to make it pop a bit more?

I love the colors! It turned out well for being random!

As for critique... I would maybe center the chalk more, or crop off a bit of the left wall. The chalk at the bottom is a little dark/shadowy. But there's a lot of great/interesting detail!

When I came across this photo I had to call my wife and show her . As for something so plain its a wonderful shot and had to ask her whats the differents between a simply shot like urs that looks so good yet any standard shoots i take look crap and boring . Thanx for sharing this shot

Interesting shot of something "ordinary". I think It'd be a bit more interesting cropped tight into the chalk, leaving the box out of the frame.

Great idea, great photo! You can try cropping the box out, but I like the color of it so I'd at least keep a version with the box too. Currently you show a bit more of the box on the bottom than on top, and more on left than right. The box isn't perfectly straight horizontally or vertically either.

You could try aligning the box straight and taking the photo with top/bottom and left/right being equal. Or turn the box around some, and take a photo when the box is at 45 degree angle or so, and crop/compose so that it looks good.

There's also some dirt on bottom left & right corners of the box. The rest of the box seems clean so it stands out. Clean it out or add more dirt :D

The subject is very interesting and the colors are great, if you play around a little I'm sure you'll get more wonderful shots.
