Hello all - new forum member here.
I used to take a lot of photos with a Nikon point-and-shoot but recently I have bought a Kodak Z812 IS which isnt quite a DSLR but has many manual modes for my own learning experiences.

This is the first picture I took with it in full manual. I wa learning how aperture worked with DOF. What do you think?

i think you nailed working with your depth of field.......presuming you were looking at isolating your grey and red die....:)

thanks for sharing

jprime87, Welcome

From a composition/attention standpoint, the blue/white die is brighter and has three numbers reading upright. This makes it a more attention-grabbing subject (viewers go to brighter readable material first). Switchng its position with grey/red (upside-down numbers, duller color) would improve overall effect.

As far as a study in how Aperture affects DoF, you did very well. However, in addition to what JC suggested, I'm also distracted by your background. Instead of the blur hiding the box, I'm left trying to figure out what it is (Cigarettes?). The best way to fix that would be to simply remove the box, and eliminate the background. The amount of detail lost in the back edge of the counter may be enough to get away with laying a sheet of curved paper on it. This is all just stuff to keep in mind for the future though. Nice work :)
