Hi all, I'm brand new here to DPS and to digital photography in general. I'm hoping I can get some input on this picture. I like the blue color of it, but I wish the face wasn't as washed out as it is. This is a bobblehead of mine that's being lit up with an LED book light. I like the eerieness of it, but, like I said, I wish the face wasn't so bright. I'd also like any other input anyone can offer. I only just purchased my XT last week so I have lots of learning to do. Thanks

If you didnt like the face so bright just dial down the exposure a bit and it will not be so blown out.

1. As said above, you can take this at less EV; BUT if you aren't satisfied with the end result that way:
2. Try experimenting with the Metering. Spot metering/Center Weighted at such a time will be great. Just meter off the face, and it might get better.

Welcome to DPS. Always nice to see a fellow Wisconsinite. There are a few of us here.

Generally speaking, if you get the brightest areas exposed right, it is easier to brighten other sections to match (certainly easier than restoring blown highlights). There are limits though, depending the overall level of contrast beween light and dark. Another choice would be using a diffused general light as well as the LED spotlight.
