I would like to upgrade my Canon Powershot pro1. Really nice L-lens! But it is a fixed lens. Now I consider Rebel XTI or 30D. I like the feel of the 30D better than the XTI.
Or is it better to go for the cheaper one (XTI) and spend more money on the lens?

That is definitely a personal decision and I guess a lot depends on the amount of money you have to spend. I am hearing vague rumblings about a 40D coming out soon, in fact many people thought it would come out this spring. Instead they announced the EOS-1D Mark III. Too bad, because that would have made the 30D prices drop. If you like the feel of the 30D and the price of the XTi, maybe you could look into the 20D http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=348317&is=REG&addedTroughType=search.

Personally, I prefer spending less on the camera body and more on the lens. A great lens on a Rebel will most likely give you a sharper picture than a poor lens on a 30D. Also, lenses are kept longer then bodies which will wear out over time. But if you don't like the feel of the XTi, you may never be happy with it.

2nd. if you're learning, you might as well start with an entry level and purchase quality glass that you can use on an upgraded body later down the line. a 30d will produce crap images if you use crap glass.
if you have the ability, try the XTi w/ the optional battery grip. it makes a world of difference and makes the camera feel way better than without it.

Yes I agree to spend more money on the lens than the body. Although the 30D comes with a 17-85 IS USM lens, which is not really a cheap one, but quite good lens.
I think I will go for the 30D, it is not a whole lot more money but it is definitely more camera.
