I wonder if you can help me. I'm pretty new to photography & have taken this picture of me & my daughter. I love the composition/lighting etc, but can't help thinking that I need to do some work on my face, perhaps smoothing or softening it somehow (not vanity, it just doesn't look right in the picture). I have photoshop elements 5.

Camera: Canon EOS 400D Digital
Exposure: 0.1 sec (1/10)
Aperture: f/1.8
Focal Length: 50 mm

I would welcome any advice. Thanks.

To be honest, I might trim a fraction off the top and bottom (losing your nostil at the top and truncating the V formed by your daughter's sleeve at the bottom) but otherwise I think it is great. Your face looks a little older (though by no means rough, wrinkled or ugly) but I think that helps by adding just enough contrast to make your daughter look more young and innocent still.

You are out of focus, probably due to your shutter speed, but other than that you look fine!
Making it brighter will help, as the skintones are a bit muddy and the pic is dark. In the play below I added contrast, boosted midtones, and dodged you ever so slightly.

What a great picture to have of you and your daughter! I'm pretty new to photography, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. It does look like you are a little blury to me. But, other than that...it is a really, really nice picture! Since I'm also learning here, could it be because the f-stop was set at 1.8? With it being 1/8 wouldn't only the focus point be clear and the backgroud be blured? Could this be why her face is out of focus???
