My first post in the critique forum - thanks in advance for your advice.

I took this last night during the lunar eclipse and I am fairly happy with it. But being new I'm sure there is a lot I can learn, so any suggestions for improvement are welcome. I also am not sure if there particular techniques for cropping - are there some general rules or suggestions specifically for this picture?

I used my K100D with a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens. The EXIF data shows f/0 - not sure why to be honest, perhaps someone knows the answer to that as well? I had the camera set to f/4 and mounted to a tripod to take this shot. The rest of the EXIF data is on Flickr - but here are the highlights:
Exposure: 3 sec (3)
Aperture: f/0
Focal Length: 300 mm
Focal Length: 3000mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0/10 EV

I've already learned a lot looking through DPS, a great place to learn as well as enjoy some really nice photos.

Was it could outside? If it was very cold, this could have caused the electronics in the lens not to pass the correct information to the camera to include in the photo?

rediguana - yes it was cold as a matter of fact, it was around 20 degrees.

Thanks for the reply.

Wow, love the red. Did you get good detail in the moon, I'd love to see a closer crop as long as it didn't start looking blurry. I've taken some moon shots too and it is so hard to focus properly! I was out eclipse night too but haven't processed yet. Doubt I got anything as good as this one though.

I just got around to cropping tonight. I used IrfanView (I don't have Photoshop ... yet) and this is really the first time I got into cropping. I was worried about losing crispness which is why I was looking for advice. But, I figured the best way to learn is to do. You can see the results on my Flickr page - http://www.flickr.com/photos/mseigafuse/sets/72157603954525551/

Let me know when you post yours, I'd like to look at other people's shots of the eclipse too.
