Hello. I've been to Barcelona tonight to take the first Light Trails shots with the new Camera (D40) I got last week. This is one of the bests I took.
What do you think? It was a big mistake not to take it in raw since trying to vary the white balance and brightness made it lose a lot of detail...

Exposure: 8 sec (8)
Aperture: f/32
Focal Length: 40 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Exposure Bias: 0/6 EV

Thanks!

Hi josealb:
Congratulations on your first attempt. Experimenting is the best way to learn things.
It would be nice if your could read the forum rules (http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10895) for critique as they suggest to share the EXIF data of your shot (Which in this case would be helpful).
Shotting in RAW is better for later tweak but if you feel comfortable shooting at JPG is cool too. I had to check your EXIF data at flickr and the two main things i see is that you used an 8 sec exposure and 1600 ISO. As you can see in your photo there is too much light and the blown light from lamps are distracting and take out attention from your light trails. If you could shot this again, I would considering using a lower ISO, and then play with the exposure to see which combination suits well.
Thanks for sharing it and hope to see more of your work!

I'm sorry that I didn't post the EXIF data, thanks for editing it for me I'll do it next time.

Thanks for your critique oriolhdz I hadn't even realized that i was shooting at 1600 iso i saw that value in the menu but thought the camera would readjust it to suite the shutter speed, well as you say experimenting is the best way to learn

By the way where are you from? Oriol suggests a catalan name I'm from Barcelona. (Sorry for the Off-topic:D)

You've done a fine job with the light trails, color, lighting, etc. without overexposing the shot. Nice work.
