here is a photo i took at a sattelite imaging place it looked pretty cool i cropped it out and took it to b&w any comments or ideas i cant seem to get the contrast right i keep thinking its missing something

The crop is good, and also think B&W works well. What I found is that your conversion to b&w is a little bit dull. Try to play with levels and curves to give it a more strong contrast.
For the rest of the image, the detail is good.
Here is what I got after playing with it.

How did you convert it to black and white? There are several methods which are better than just clicking the desaturate button.

If your software lets you mimic black and white filters, that conversion will generally give you better contrast. This filter list (http://www.schneiderkreuznach.com/tipps/sw_fotografie_e.htm) explains their effects; red and green seem to be the most common, but it's worth experimenting a bit.
