Hey all. I officially realize that I have no idea what I'm doing

I would love to be able to take better lit, more focused shots but I'm not sure how to do it. I tried to find some natural light to use and used the no flash mode on my camera. In the viewfinder it looked brighter than on screen, so I did some post processing to make it better (at least I think so, anyway!) Any tips on what I could do to get better lighting and better focus would be appreciated! Thanks!

Eegs,

It helps to know where your camera settings were, for those inclined to give good advice on where you might go from here.

I joined as a blank slate last year. Might be the best way, just open the conversation with, "I'm empty, fill me up!" Always someone here to tell you what they know.

I added the exif data, not sure if you saw the post after I added, but thanks for the tip!

Eegs,

Thanks, more is better here, for information.

This photo has some problems, and still I think it also charms its way past most of that. It's a candid, non-standard shot that just gets right up the baby's nose and says "I am too cute for my own good!"

Having daughter in a semi-sitting position (propped with pillows, or in a carrier) would give less of the lighting-the-lower face problem. Natural light is great, if you have a second light or reflector to fill shadows on dark side. Start out with ISO 100 and adjust from there: 1/6 sec. isn't going to get the best sharp image. I don't know how to suggest getting that same expression, it's your magic that draws that out. Just try as many different things as you can, others will have good info. Experiment, reread your manual. You're better than you think.

Hey, I have no idea what I'm doing either! :) I like the concept of the pic but the photo seems a little overexposed I think? I couldn't tell you how to fix it. Maybe a little light difusion and a lower iso? I dunno, I'd wait for someone more experienced to take advice from than me...
