* Where Was it Taken?
Killin, Scotland. I climbed a lot of rocks to get near the back of the rapids and found this mini waterfall.

* What settings did you use?
Exposure: 20 sec
Aperture: f/22
Focal Length: 35 mm
ISO: 200

* What gear (camera, lens etc) did you use?
Camera: Nikon D100
Lens: 12-35 Nikon F2.8
Filter: Cokin Infrared 89B
Tripod and shutter release cable

* Why did you compose the shot as you did?
The top of the waterfall sits nicely on the rule of thirds and provided plenty of foliage for the infrared to work its magic.

* What post production work have you done on the shot (if any)?
The file was converted to mono in Photoshop, and the contrast was increased. A wee bit of unsharp mask too.

* What were you hoping to achieve with the shot?
Produce a nice picture. What else? hehe

* What did you do well?
I like the composition and the length of the shutter speed has produced nice lines where the water is flowing. I also like the "glow" of the waterfall itself.

* How could you have improved it?
I actually wish that I had used a manual white balance and tried to get a colour infrared shot. The original is too red from the filter to rescue.
Maybe next year...

Lol thanks - it has a steep learning curve but what an amazing result you can get. Well worth the effort! I look forward to seeing your results.

quick question - was the waterfall on a hill? Everything seems to lean right a little. I quite like the effect but caught myself leaning with the shot.

Lovely tones though - I'm a big fan of infrared and would love to do some experimentation myself one day.

Yup it was on a hill. This waterfall is on the far right of the river and the island in the middle separates it from the main part.

If you are delving into infrared I can highly recommend the Cokin filter system.
Was definitely the cheapest option and I now own a Kood polariser (fits in the Cokin holder) and a graduated grey filter for bringing the sky back into the shot.

the only thing that bothers me about this is the giant empty white spot in top right were the sky would be. real good shot though. im getting an old 300d converted to an IR camera. i cant wait to get it back

So, were you using AWB or some other preset?

Now I want to learn about infrared and I barely know how to use my carmera. Thanks ;)

I had it on flurescent 2 or something - I can't remember. I read it somewhere on the net.

Beautiful shot!

So your D100 was not altered in any way, other than the addition of the infrared filter? Hmm. I must look into this further.

Nope - just a Cokin infrared filter slapped on the front of the lens! :)

Agree with you re Cokin filters - had a set for my old non-digi SLP. Must see if I can get them to work with the new digi camera.
That shot has great depth, contrast and atmosphere.
