I was driving home, and saw this amazing Sunset and had to just pull over and snap some shots. This branch intrigued me though, i took alot of photos of it. Does it add to those photo? making a point of interest? or detract from the majesty of the sunet...?

i am a big fan of framing out sunset shots.....they definitely add interest and reference to the skies....i can see that's what you were looking for here.....but, that branch through the middle is distracting for me....

Beautiful sunset. When I looked at the pic before reading your description, my first thought was, "Too bad that branch is in the middle." It competes too much with the sunset. Cloning it out could be a possibility.

I agree the branch is distracting, but with out it, im afraid the photo wouldnt really have a point of interest. It would be just another generic sunset photo. But at the same time, maybe the branch is too much. I have some others i took, that didnt capture the colours as well, but frame the branch better... Please look at my Flickr and feel free to leave me comments, i would love the feedback

i have to agree with you on the generic sunset mindset.......i generally don't like sunsets just on their own without silhouttes or framing.....frankly, they bore me.....but, i'm not everyone.....
i took a look at your photostream to get an idea of what you were looking for.....5414 seemed to jump out at me beacuse it places that branch in a strong focul point.....i guess the colors changed by then because....well, sunset skies are a constantly changing scene.....but, if it was the branch that interested you the most at the time.....this image pulls it off for you....
thanks

I guess when i saw the branch, the shape of the leaves and the way it curled back, to me, made it look sort of like a vine. Like a grapevine. Then i started thinking about all the diferent interpretations i could create, because grape vines have so many stereotypes surrounding them. And i guess i got carried away with this branch, and missed the best parts of the sunset...
This was the only place on the road i could pull over, and unfortunatly it was very full of tree's. I almost lost my back pockets everytime a car went past actually..
Very nice sunset and clouds...for me the problem with the branch is the way that it merges with the trees in the distance, it just doesn't work for me and in a way reminds me of when you see pictures of someone with a pole growing out of their head. If there were just a little bit of space of sky between the end of the branch and the trees in the distance it would work better in my opinion, as it is it gives me the feeling that the branch is merely blocking the view. But everything else is great, I love your composition in every other way.

Thanks for the compliment Sela. If you have a look at my Flickr there are some others that are more like what you described. But they werent as well exposed the colours aren't as bright. I guess you can't have you cake and eat it too

I think the branch does add to the interest, however, I'd like it a bit more to the left so it isn't right in the middle of the shot. Apply the rule of thirds to this one, and it's great! Nice work.
