Default lighting question for photographing swim meets

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forums and have a lighting question. I do not have a photo ready to share yet. My children are members of swim team and I have been taking photos at their indoor meets and I cannot figure out settings to get a nice color.

I am shooting with a Nikon D60. I have tried to use the built-in flash and using no flash as well as shooting with dial turned to sports mode.(which I think is more for outdoor use). I am new to slr digital photography and am looking for any helpful hints I can try out at our meet this week. I will send a couple photos(likely to sports forum) for some helpful critiques.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
