I still have my nikon film camera and, occasionally still shoot in film so I can play in my darkroom...very relaxing and I love b/w photos. You don't say whether you used any filters or exposure settings. Using film you really do need to use lens filters. For b/w it's common to use a red filter to make the various shades stand out... Think Ansel Adams and how clear and detailed his photos were. You can achieve the same by using a red filter, a tripod and using the camera's timer.
