Hi all,
I went throught the Article library given by Nicole. It was nice and really helping. Thanks a lot Nicole for sharing that.... In that library the Depth Of Field Calculator confuses me in some aspects.Let me draw down my understanding first and then my problem and please correct me if i'm wrong some where.
DOF: the depth of field (DOF) is the distance in front of and beyond the subject that appears to be in focus. If you want to add more emphasis to your subject,it should be in focus, the background and fore ground can be blurred, total DOF has to be less. helps lot while shooting small objects, small animals, portraists. On the other hand, while on a lanscape ,scenic photo the DOF has to be maximum, so that all the elements or areas in the photo will be crisp and clear.
Hyperfocal distance: "the hyperfocal distance is the closest distance at which a lens can be focused while keeping objects at infinity acceptably sharp". It is said as all objects at distances from half of the hyperfocal distance out to infinity will be acceptably sharp.
Can some body please corelate between DOF and Hyperfocal length ...?
Now let me spread out the doubt a bit practically. I uses panasonic Lumix DMC FZ50. When i used DOF calculator i have given the camera model as FZ20 which is the earlier version of my cam. Actual focal length is given as 63 mm(300 mm in cam). aperture 2.8, Subject distance is 50 feet.
Now the results are total DOF is 5.42 ft. Hyperfocal distance is 921 ft. So if i take a photo in my cam with the above specs how will it be...?
Will it be like..
1) at 50 ft my subject is clear...!
2)at 100 ft if there is a fence it will be blured...?
3) the fence if there is an out line of a small hill. Will it be blurred or clear...?
Thanks a lot....
