Good thing about the 77mm is that as you get better and better glass, you'll notice all the filter rings start to standardize at 77mm. Anything less and than a super-telephoto, or extra wide, or extra fast(like the 1.2), in the canon L series will be 77mm... Sigma is doing you a favor by making their EX series 77mm, it makes your polarizers and what such interchangeable!

PS, you should always buy expensive filters for your largest lens, cause you can always get reducing rings, but you can't use a 55mm filter on a 77mm lens
