I would say for what you are wanting to do the original photo you posted is on track. I like the angle in that one the best. I think you need to shoot at a higher f stop, maybe around f11-f16, to get more of that upper wall in focus. That will push you to a much slower shutter speed so you will need to be sure to be on a tripod. As far as this photo goes I would prefer to see the roof corner, at the top edge of the frame, completely in the frame. The other thing I notice is some light spots in the black sky, those you could just stamp out. Hope that helps.
