Extension tubes will make the lens focus even closer. (and I'd buy the Kenko set rather than a Canon tube)

If you want more working distance between the lens and the subject you need a longer focal length lens. I'm not sure if there's a teleconvertor that fits your 60mm and even if there is a good quality one is likely to be expensive and will still compromise image quality.
