I also have the D40X. I got it as an upgrade from the p&s digital cameras around Xmas 2007. I wanted a better quality, and knew that I needed to start somewhere. I have an SLR 35mm (Canon Elan 7) and I loved it. I knew it was only a matter of time before I got into the DSLRs! I was mainly interested in automatic features at the time, but knew one day I would dive into the manual aspects. After research between the current models out there, I ended up with the D40X. Now, I have learned, while extremely perfect for the newbie DSLR user, when you start getting into the other features is when you really start to notice the difference. I knew from the mention of the D90, that I was going to need an upgrade. After using my friends in August, I was sure of it. There were several things I wanted an upgrade on (not the video either), like the low lighting situations. I see a big difference in the better models. So I first got a second lens before making any crazy decisions, to accompany my 18-135mm. I chose the 35mm prime. I now have a dilemna. I still want an upgrade. Is the D90 that much of a jump from the D40X, (not counting the mps), and what would be another camera(s) to also look into to upgrade? I love my D40X, but there are things I need to do that this little baby can not seem to provide. I have seen my friends D200, and the lcd(?) up top, and I see what it is used for... OMG!! What a difference that top screen makes. Anyhow, so I have to now research what to get next. D90 would be the fast choice, but will I be short changing myself is my question!
