The b/w looks better but not by much..if you're trying to do an Ansel Adams look... back in the 35mm days we'd use a red filter to sharpen detail..don't know if you can accomplish that post pic on PS or Gimp.

By snapshotty, I think the comment merely means that the photo does not stand out or draws the viewer into the picture. I think the negative part of digital photography is that people tend to take a lot of snapshots in hope of getting one photograph. Try to visualize your shots as if you were shooting in film and can't waste shots; you'll find that you'll end up with many more interesting shots.
