There is a grid in the custom shape tools in Photoshop that I find very useful when cropping. It is 3 x 3, so you can align it over your photo to find a good "rule of thirds" crop. Then once you use the rectangular marquee tool to choose the portion of your photo under the grid, you simply trash the grid and choose image-crop.

Voila, works like a charm, in case you weren't thinking about the composition when you took the pic,
