Default love bug edit

I'm new to lightroom so I'm still trying to find a middle ground between over editing and improving the original image. My first attempt was a bust- over edited with too much contrast, etc.

This one is better- instead of increasing the clarity all the way, which I tend to do on most pics trying to get a sharp image, I decreased the clarity a bit in hopes of drawing more attention to the bugs and away from the flowers. I increased the reds and blacks and decreased the exposure just a touch.

I considered cropping but decided the large population IS the picture.

Any thoughts?? Is it over done- under done? It doesn't look as good as I thought when viewing in lightroom.
