The D40 is considered an entry level DSLR...one more step up and you get to pro-sumer level, and then finally up to pro level cameras. Most people would have to agree that a D40 is not considered a pro camera, but it's all in the interpretation, and unfortunately, it'll be their interpretation on whether it is, or it is not.
