Before I went digital, my boys would shoot with my 35mm SLR. I'd set an exposure for them. Sometimes they'd grab the f-stop ring instead of the focus, but other than that, they could focus and shoot. Younger son took some of the coolest photos.
Then when I got a digital P&S, they'd come in the office, "Daddy, can I borrow the camera?" "Sure, here you go." They'd go off and take a hundred pictures, bring the camera back, we'd look at them, maybe print one or 2, and put the batteries in the charger. Cost: Nothing. They did have trouble getting used to the lens being on the side and sometimes put their hands over it.
They're 15 and 17 now.
