I'm not sure if this would apply, because this isn't a very wide open aperture (7.1). But it's about as macro as I can do with my current equipment. A macro lens is someday in my future...
I actually tend to shoot on smaller aperture settings (higher values) when I work psuedo-macro because my lens is so near the subject that a large aperture (2.8 or so) tends to throw too much of the subject out of focus for my tastes.
