Sony used to do something similar with their audio CD's. They used to include a hidden program on their CD's that would automatically install itself on your computer. This program then kept track of use and any attempts to copy or rip the CD were blocked.
This was eventually discovered and a class-action lawsuit was filed against Sony because they were installing the audio CD monitoring software on people's machines without the owner's consent.
