It's build quality will probably be similar to the 50mm f1.8, slightly better than the kit lens. Plastic body with a metal mount (the metal mount is currently listed in the specs). But I doubt it will be soft. An aspherical element is included in the design to correct aberrations and the aperture blades are rounded to acheive a more natural appearance of out of focus elements. Sounds to me like they've put a bit of effort into the optical design.
