Default San Francisco Ferry Building at night

This was my first attempt at light trails. I feel this one was the best shot of the night. This was shot without a tripod and hood. I was wondering if a hood would have made a difference with the brightness of the street lights? The only adjustments that I did in lightroom was adjust the white balance. I would like some critique on the composition, and suggestions for improvements in doing light trails.
