Wow, I'm doing a lot of disagreeing with people on this thread but I'm about to do it again.

The experts would state that under exposing your image is not the way to go as you will introduce a lot of noise when you increase the exposure in the RAW converter. What you should actually be doing is exposing to the right, i.e over exposure, but without blowing out your highlights.

See here for an explantion as to why as its far to complex for me to explain.
