Great image. A beautiful setting that was very well composed.

On the over-exposure:
In general I under-expose by one level on all my shots as its easier to brighten pics digitally than to recover lost details because of over-exposure.

A useful tool when you are starting out or you really have to capture the moment is AEB (Auto exposure bracketing) where the camera is set to automatically take 3 shots - one at your specified exposure and then one one-level-up and one one-level-down. Most DSLRs have this feature. If yours doesnt, do it manually just to make sure.
