You really need another option. I have a camera with me everywhere I go, but only take my tripod when I know I'm going to be out shooting. Even then, it usually stays in the car until I've determined, or know, that the location where I'm shooting will allow me to set it up without being in the way or getting hassled.
I swear by tripods, and recommend them whenever possible, but they're just not practical "everywhere".
