I have found the D40 to be a perfect way to get the control and quality of a DSLR at a relatively low price (and weight!) compared to the big boys.

seriously! that seems to be one thing they all knock on them is the weight and size? i mean it's a camera not, well you know. you are going to want something small especially if your using a larger heavier lens so that your arm doesn't fall off.
