Lens on, for a few reasons.
I worry more about contamination from plastic bits or shavings off the body cap from the wear and tear of screwing it in than from a metal lens mount.
Also, I like to keep the camera with my default walk-around zoom lens (17-55) attached and ready to use fairly quickly.
That also seems to be the only way to reasonably get all the gear stored in my current bag...
