I have the course but am stuck on the portrait unit (not my fave type of photography!). You get three years in which to finish the entire course. The feedback is the best part of the course - you receive a cassette tape from a photography professional who gives you constructive criticism on the photos you send in.

Compared to other courses I've taken (with live instructors), this isn't as effective for me. I think one needs to be extremely motivated to go out on their own. I enjoy hearing my classmates' opinions, one on one.

There is a MSN group of NYIP students though, so that's a way to interact with fellow students, I just do better in a live setting!

I wish they would use CDs instead of cassette tapes, but overall, the instructional material is pretty good, and like someone said, you'll get out of it what you put into it.

Hope this rambling message helps!
