comparing aperture on dig cams to 35mm SLR's
I am brand new to digital photography & just bought my 1st digital camera. I used to be a very serious ameteur photog. using 35mm Nikon SLR's film cameras. Why do the lenses on dig cams only go down to F/8 when 35mm SLR's go down to F/16 or even F/22? More importantly, how do I equate the two. How do I correlate an F stop of F/12 on a 35mm SLR to the lens/apertures on a dig cam? What would an aperture setting of F/4.0 on a dig cam be equivalent to on a 35mm SLR-for example? I usually set my camera to Aperture Priority, unless of course speed is an important factor. So, you can see why I need to learn & understand the differences. Help please.
