I think the work you have done works well; on the original, the pin is rather small but cropping, rotating, changing the colour curve and vignetting all combine to make it into a much stronger image. I don't think you would fool a lomo-ista and, with this result, I really don't think that matters.

However, I will be interested to see how you get on with a different subject.
