DPS Photowalk in Vegas - The Pictures
Last week marked a special occasion in the life of Digital Photography School - a group of 70 of us met up in person for the first time for the first ever DPS photowalk!

While it only lasted a hour and a half it was a fun evening as we wandered down the Strip from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Much of the walk centered around the water show at the Bellagio but there was plenty of other things to see and shoot over the evening.

You can see shots from the night that have been uploaded to Flickr with the tag dpsvegas here (if you came and have not uploaded yours yet don’t forget to tag them) - there are close to 500 so far. I’ve included a few here in this post.

I wanted to also give a special thank you to Jared from Pro Photo Rental who not only flew into Vegas for the walk but who brought a case full of wonderful lenses for many of those on the walk to try out. I don’t know how much those lenses were worth collectively but do appreciate his generosity in allowing a group of strangers to ‘play’ with his gear like that.

Where will the next DPS Photowalk be?
This is a question I’ve had a few times since Vegas. I’m not sure what the answer is but do want to throw it open for people to organize their own. If you want to do one the best way to gather others in your area is to join our forum and post a suggested time and place for your meetup. At the very least I’d like to do another one in Vegas next year at Blog World Expo and possibly one in Austin earlier in the year at the South by South West festival.

You should do one in Israel.
Nobody can say that Jerusalem isn’t an interesting city to photograph.

Inspired by the Vegas photo walk, I started organizing a photo walk in Amsterdam. See the forum at http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/showthread.php?p=285531 for more information.

Good to hear Jared made the trip out. He’s a stand-up guy, great to deal with.

Looks like I missed a great evening.
But you know how it is.. living on another continent..
Just a ticket would cost me $ 1000,- :D
But if anyone is interested, we should do one in Europe soon.

Perhaps one to consider is NYC. the city is full of character. B& W or color; you just can’t go wrong. So much is happening there all the time. Perhaps around the holidays could be a good time as well when all the lights are at their best…

I second SF. Thanks for organizing the walk Daniel. The thing dispersed from 70 to like 10.. but the group that I walked with was still a blast to shoot with. It was fun meeting everyone.

Hi guys-
Thanks to Darren for organizing this walk. It was a lot of fun, and judging by the number of people, a BIG hit.
Thanks also go to Kris Krug. Kris did a great job of leading the gaggle of people and answering questions about composition & exposure.
I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet more of you guys, but it was great talking to those of you I did.
Take care, and keep shooting!

That pic of Caesars Palace at night by Robert Scoble is really cool stuff. The lighting gives off a really relaxing glow and feeling to that pic.

I think SF is an amazing place..so if you do one there, no one will be disappointed. Another one is in my neck of the woods- Seattle. Even in the rain I’ve only gotten beautiful pictures. Its an old city and you’ll find people in every shape, color and size..mostly odd shaped people but don’t tell them that I said that! haha

Definitely Austin. Possibly Central Illinois, would also be another great location for a photo-walk.
Love the photographs!
