Digital Photography School – Now with Full Feeds
Those readers who subscribe to Digital Photography School via our RSS Feed or via our daily email updates will know that up until today we’ve only ever shown the title of new posts and very short excerpts in the feed and emails.
One very common request that we’ve had from those of you subscribing in these ways is that you want to see full articles in the feed and via email. We’ve resisted this mainly because having full feeds opens us up to other sites ’scraping’ (stealing) our content and republishing it on their own sites.
However due to popular demand we’ve taken the decision over the weekend to open up our feeds and daily email updates to include full articles – this also includes pictures that we publish in our articles.
You’ll also notice in our feeds that we’ve added the ability bookmark our posts in some popular social media sites, click through to leave a comment and
Those already subscribed should be seeing these changes already.

Mmm, actually not seeing any links to social media etc in the feed and… ?
If you’re worried about scrapers you could also throw a copyright or some similar statement at the end of the feed.

Kristarella – you’re not seeing the links to Digg, Stumbleupon and delicious in the footer of the feed? Are you subscribed to This Feed? We also have a copyright notice in it. Could be that you’re subscribed to an older version of the feed….

Hey Darren,
That’s the feed I’m subscribed too. Just checked the post about Filters, which also doesn’t have the social links, but it does have Google ads. Maybe my reader fetched the posts when you were in the middle of making these changes, or maybe there’s some crazy thing going on with my reader.
I’ll let you know after the next post (tomorrow?) if they’re still not showing up.
K.

The way you had it before was cool with me. Now, even tho there is “full feed”, I still have to open in cuz the text runs off the page on the right. Either/Ither, I love this site. Lots of great information. I am a total “wannabe” photographer and can’t wait til I can afford a digital slr. I love your tips and tutorials. Thank You!!

FYI – Still not getting FeedFlare details (links and copyright) for DPS in Vienna, but it comes through fine on Google Reader.
I think this might be a problem with Vienna and the non-standard img src (the links and copyright are made into images and served without file extensions).
I’m going to file a bug with Vienna and see if I’m right about the image thing. In the meantime, it shouldn’t be a problem for your feed because the copyright will show up on any scraper websites. It’s just a shame I don’t get the convenience of the links. Might switch back over to Google Reader if the problem persists.

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks like so many others.

thanks everyone for your feedback on this – it was an interesting decision to make to take DPS to full feeds and one I was a little nervous about. Appreciate everyone’s readership though – whether in RSS feed readers or here on the blog! Just don’t forget to come by to comment!

Thank you; thank you; thank you! I’m an almost exclusively RSS based blog reader, so it kills me when sites don’t post the full feed, because I often end up not reading those sites out of convenience. However, I didn’t want to miss out on all of the fantastic DPS tips, so I appreciate the move to a full feed.

Brilliant! At Last! This is a great move and i hope people don’t try to stealth steal your material! That would be a great shame!
