Digital Photography School Design Upgrade
You’ve been asking for it, I’ve been hinting about it and our designers have been working on it….
In the next 24 hours you’ll see some changes here at Digital Photography School.
For starters you’ll notice a completely new design and feel to the blog.
- The annoying menu at the bottom of the site will be gone (so those of you on small screens won’t have your view of the articles blocked)
- There will be a ’search’ feature so that you can plug in a topic that you want information on and find out if we’ve covered it before
- Forums will be unveiled. Some of you have already been testing these for me and there have been some great discussions, new assignments and some community building already taking place
- There will be a new look and feel, new colors, easier navigation and more
Help us Iron out the Bugs
Of course, while our design team have been working hard on the new design there will of course no doubt be a few bugs that we need to weed out once the site is live. Feel free to email us or leave a comment below if you find them and we’ll get set to fix them up.
Forums
Over at the new forums we invite you to register yourself as a user and then take a wander through the different categories. Introduce yourself in the ‘chit chat’ area, visit the area dedicated to your brand of camera and share your thoughts on it, submit a photo or two to our assignment threads, ask a question or answer someone else’s in the ‘technique’ area.
Forums are a place that have amazing potential for learning and networking. As I’ve said before – I’m not a digital photography expert – but I strongly believe that together we know A LOT about our hobby and if we’re each willing to share our knowledge we can achieve so much more together. That’s what the forums are about and I hope you’ll help them be the dynamic community that they have the potential to be.
Thanks
I’d like to publicly thank The Blog Studio for their work on this project. I’m not the most technical guy going around and they’ve been very patient with me and have done a great job.
Thanks also to the many readers who have helped test the new design and who have been making the forums a place where I’m sure many hundreds (and eventually thousands) of digital photography enthusiasts will find a rich resource.
So now we wait for the switch to be flipped
The design team are hoping to flip the switch on the new design at 10am Eastern Standard Time (that’s US EST) on Thursday 14th – so you should start seeing the changes then.
Wish us luck!!!

The redesign is having some layout issues in the Opera webbrowser (v 9.02). Specifically, the menus at the top show the most issues — the “Tips” box has all the links in a vertical list, not bouncing to a second column (as it does in Firefox); the list then overwrites other text below it. Other parts of the top menu are similarly misaligned.
Just an fyi. The redesign looks good in Firefox, though! Well done!

Hi, Just logged in. The menu box on the right side of the screen does not show in full. Some letters are missing and the screen looks incomplete. There is a blank grey coloumn next on the LHS of the screen and the comment just below home reads as ‘Do you see in b’ text after that is missing. But the new look is great, I dont feel that I am reading from a documentary as I used to feel before. This looks much more in line with the present world.
Thanks,
Krish

Looks way cool! Don’t care for the NAV to pop up unbidden. All else comes in loud and clear. Jan

Wow, the new design is a huge improvement. Nice job! Only thing I kind of don’t like are the big blue bars to the right of the comments and in the blockquoted areas of the main page. They’re distracting and aren’t necessary from a markup perspective.

I love the new layout – especially that the frames went away – this is much more pleasing to the eye and easier to read in my opinion.
