1 Million Readers Can’t Be Wrong

1000000You’re one in a million!

Just over two years ago (back in April of 2006) I started a blog here at Digital Photography School with the hope of connecting with others with a passion for digital photography. I knew there were others out there who like me wanted to learn to use their cameras to their fullest potential and get out of Auto Mode and suspected that a blog was the best way to connect with them.

It turns out that my suspicion was right as hundreds of thousands of readers each month have come together here on the blog to learn about how to be better photographers.

Today I’m excited to announce that last month we’ve reached a new milestone - 1 million unique visitors to this blog in a single month.

We’ve been closing on the magical 1 million reader mark on the whole site (blog and forum) for a while now but July saw us not only reach it for the combined two areas of the site but also just for the blog itself. Over both areas it was actually just under 1.5 million unique readers! Together you all viewed over 3.4 million pages of digital photography content at DPS in July.

Darren, I’m a neophyte photographer, and I have found your site to be relevant, refreshing and a great resource! Here’s some words that I think represent some of your phenomenal success…
“The heights by great men reached and kept,
were not attained by sudden flight,
but they, while others soundly slept,
were toiling upwards, in the night’

    Congratulations!

Congratulations on your 1MM readers. I soak up each and every photo from your assignments and am constantly awed by the creativity displayed. It is a real treat to see photos from different and exotic sites. The last assignment, 10 Minutes from Home, surprised me with the number of P&S shots. It gives me real incentive to get out there and use my little camera to its fullest capacity. P.S., I give my 13 year old niece the same challenge for her camera, too.

    Thanks for the great site!

I am a newcomer to Digital Photography. Very recently i bought a Sony Alpha 200k with 18-70mm lenses. I have subscribed to the news letters and i have learned so much from the articles posted on DPS.

Reading DPS blog is the best way to learn even for newcomers.

The main reason being the articles are so written in layman’s language that even people who are not from this field for a long time can understand it very well.

    Congratulations on completing 2 yrs!!!

If you would have asked for a £1 donation towards your efforts, a small price to pay for the valuable information provided by DPS, YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN A MILLIONAIRE!
That was a missed chance, ah well, back to the lottery.

On a serious note, I have learned plenty from DPS and you have inspired me to venture deeper into the world of photography than just pressing the shutter release…thank you for everything, keep up the excellent work.

Congratulations on building a massive readership!

Now with that out of the way, I don’t want to burst your bubble, but you may not realize that reports from traffic analyzers showing 1,000,000 unique visitors very likely doesn’t equate to 1,000,000 unique people.

If I browse DPS from Firefox, then browse it from Safari, the traffic analyzers will show 2 visitors not 1. If I browse DPS at home, then browse it again with my iPhone on the way to work, traffic analyzers will show 2 visitors, not 1.

If I disable cookies on my browser, popular traffic analyzers will show a unique visitor for every page view I make.

Conversely, there are some proxies that provide access to “the rest of the world” for countries that censor internet availability. Its possible to have thousands of people from censored areas have their traffic routed through such a proxy, and hits on DPS might show that 1 unique visitor made 200,000 page views.

But, I’m sure you do have a broad readership, but be wary of how you interpret the results.

I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my computer or the way your files are saved.

Thank in adevance you for you feedback. I missed some of your great topics. Keep the site going and more power.

  • Sime Says:

Hey Raymond, the links seem to be working OK, you might want to clear your internet cache (google it for your particular computer / browser) and try again..
