HI,

Thanks for the tips. in 2 weeks I am going to the Royal International Air Tattoo Show (FairFord airbase in England). I am absolute beginner and this is my first air show. I am equipped (after a long saving period :-) ),with Canon EOS 450D, 18-55 mm f3.5-5.6, a Canon prime lens 60mm f2.8, and a zoom lens 55-250 f4-5.6. I know, not the best lenses (apart form the 60 mm) but this is my first time and will see how it goes. You are right about the weather and in England we have all seasons in one day (mind you at the moment it is pretty hot 25 C, well it is very hot for us :-) ). As far as I know there are no restrictions on entry but it is not free, parking is free. Besides, you also need another entrance ticket to a special place where you can get close to the runway. At 56 GBP per person (not cheap when u consider my wife and 2 more kids :-) and a compact camera for the boy and a binocular for the girls :-) ). Hope it is worth it.

Well, armed with these and your tips I should get 1 or 2 pictures right :-), thanks again.

A friend sent me your link and the tips for airshows were right on. I was all prepared to drag way too much equipment including a tripod or monopod, lenses, filters and lots of other gear but instead took a chance and just the suggested lenses.
It was much less to carry and worked out just fine.
I was reluctant to take an umbrella but it came in very useful when all of a sudden the weather changed and there was a torrential downpour.
It was basically a grey overcast sky and at the end of the day my faced glowed like a cherry. Don't forget the sunscreen.

Thanks for the great tips.

went to three airshows last year and only at miramar did they check my bag. the airshows at riverside airport and chino airport, i went in and no one checked. by the way, the riverside airshow is completely free. parking is free and so is admission. word of advice, don't be so absolute in your advice unless you know for sure.

as far as the comfortable shoes? what? when i go to airshows, most of the action takes place high above. at the riverside airshow and chino airshow, you could bring foldable chairs and anywhere was a great view because the action takes place... yep... high above. in miramar, i sat on bleachers. so i spent most of the airshows watching planes and sitting.

other than that, not a bad article.

I have noticed that when I photograph something in the sky, I get a slightly white glow around the object. What am I doing wrong?

Umbrellas? so that is you up front blocking the view for everyone else?
It is more than a security reason for not allowing these at most shows it is the fact that it ruins the enjoyment for anyone behind you ;)

Had not been to an Air show since i was in the service until 2004 when my Bank began co-sponsoring an Air show at Jones Beach(L.I.N.Y.) Took some great shots with Various P&S digitals the first three years, and got my first DSLR Last summer, so i'm looking forward to Jones Beach 2007! We now make it a 2 day deal. The Host Airfield for "Most" of the show is Republic Aprt in Farmingdale, so we will spend one day doing take-offs and landings, and one day at the beach doing the actual show. Plenty of security coming in,..but if your dressed in your old gear they bother u less
I'm at work,..but when i'm home i'll post some pics of the Angels and The T-Birds as well as some great Blackhawk/Pavehawk shots
